Update on Page.ly3.0 Progress

It’s been a interesting couple of days. We have been working closely with Firehost to bring the new Database cluster online. If you have ever worked with #bigdata you know it can be tricky getting the replication setup across many mysql nodes.

The good news is we already have about 1/2 of all page.ly sites using the new databases already. This new system spreads the load across many (faster) machines and increases performance exponentially. The new machines are also more fault tolerant so we can knock a couple offline for maintenance as needed and the rest just carry on. It was the critical first step in the migration.

We are letting it run for a day or 3 to gauge load on the new machines and will make adjustments as needed before moving the remaining thousands of sites over it. Should be fully online by Monday august 8th.

We have already began syncing the file system to the new SAN’s and Firehost has doubled the SAN controllers for us in preparation. Okay maybe not just for us, well yeah it was just for us. ;) This is a long process getting all the file data moved. When that is done though we should be ready for the cutover to the Page.ly3.0 environment later this month.

The cutover itself does not require customer’s to do anything as it is just an internal network change for us to point IP’s to the new load balancers we’ll make in the wee hours of the morning later this month.

It’s been a spotty few weeks with service slow or even down; it sucks, and we know it. Thank you all for your patience and support.
